elite python graphs
There is a community called iconscraper that is currently using a LJ feed to grab any icons posted on LJ, along with any other graphics that are 100x100 or less and 40 kb or less, and hotlinking them in posts. I realize that some icon makers do not mind this, but many of them are upset that they are being posted without credit and being hotlinked.
This program is automated, and therefore is indescriminate in what it grabs - also grabbing personal photos, artwork, fanart, photography, and any other such pictures, as long as they are icon size.
If you would like to protect anything posted on your journal from being "scraped"
Go here: http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/
And do this for personal journals: set latest_optout yes
and this for communities you are maintainers of: set "for" insertcommunityname latest_optout yes
I have already done so for elitepython, my own icon journal, and my personal journal, and will do so for my writing journal in a moment. Even if you don't mind your icons being scraped, if you post any sort of pictures or personal graphics on your journals, I would recomend using the code on your personal journals. I'm not sure whether or not making them "friends only" will save them.
If you post your icons directly to a community and don't want them to be scraped, I would recomend instead using the admin console on your personal journal, posting them directly to your own journal, and and linking that post to the communities you post icons in.
You may want to look and see if any of your graphics have been scraped, but I wouldn't recomend commenting and asking the person to take them down. It's not working for anyone else, and his/her supporters will probably attack you and twist everything you say around and claim you're whining...it just won't be pretty. The easiest thing to do if you don't want scraping is just use the code.
Also: superbeicons, you might want to use it on pythonlims, because it also grabs from LIMS and icontest communities. sittinonthedock's icon from a recent challenge was scraped.
